Tears of Fire

Peril stared blankly at the stone in front of her. The sun was setting, casting long dark shadows on the cliff face and turned the sea below into a pit of molten fire. Sunny was sobbing in her mother's wings, turned away from the grave as Queen Thorn attempted to comfort her daughter. Glory was standing a distance off from everyone else, several colors shifting through her scales as Deathbringer spoke comforting things in her ear. Starflight was silent and solemn, standing next to Fatespeaker as she held his talon and described the scene for him. Tsunami awkwardly walked towards the grave and placed a solitary flower at the base of the stone and bowed her head. "You may have been a pretty awful teacher but... I'm sorry." The princess muttered to the grave and walked away. Peril turned back to the grave marker and read the inscription. Krestel. Warrior. Guardian. Mother. This was the place where she had been killed, and the dragonets had decided she have a proper funeral. Peril's wings drooped at her sides. It was like everything her life touched turned to ashes and fell away. She had met her mother for only a day, and lost her the next. Suddenly, she was wrapped in a strong embrace, apricot wings folding around her smoking scales. She leaned into the MudWing's hug and rested her head on his shoulder. "It's okay." Clay whispered in her ear. "She was my parent too." Peril shook like a leaf in Clay's embrace. He was the one thing she could count on to always he there. He was stronger than her fire-- stronger than her. A molten tear of lava flowed from Peril's blue eye and singed the grass below. "Never leave me Clay. You're all I have left." The copper SkyWing whispered. "Never. I'll always be there for you Peril." The wind seemed to sigh at Clay's promise, as both Peril and the sun, cried tears of fire.
